Walk dont Run

I was hosting Ben Greenfield, among the world’s top bio hackers and longevity experts on The Ritesh Bawri Show.

The question I asked him about nutrition was how to fuel a long run. His immediate question to me was “why would you run?”

Which set me thinking. Here is a top tier triathlete. He has run and cycled some of the most difficult routes in the world competitively.

And yet he is asking - why run?

The philosophy is that when we deviate far from human capacity; it hurts.

I know he wasn’t pouring water on anyone’s desire to compete in a triathlon.

Neither am I.

All we are saying is that for most of us a triathlon may not be the most desired way to go and that is fine. Not everyone needs to do one.

Instead, you need to find your own balance. That which gives you the best outcome given your existing ability. Push, but only that much.

So dont run if you cant walk. If you cant walk, walk just a little bit.

Too many people get initimidated by the need to do. They see images on social media of others crushing it.

The innate response is “its not for me.”

But that is a little bit like saying you saw someone eating on social media and said its not for you.

Nutrition, exercise, sleep, breathing are basic needs. They are for everyone. You just need to find a version of it that works for you. Given your lifestyle, needs and capacity.

There will be those who do the ultra version. Which is fine. But not everyone need to go there.

So I walk. I started slowly. I built capacity. Today a 2 hour walk or hike does not intimidate me. But I still dont run.

I simply do not need to.
