Three Things You Should Never
Three things that you should never.
If you’re on social media, chances are that you have seen a video where someone is telling you the three things you should never do.
Don’t bring these three things home. Never eat these three things.
The format is a template. Simplify life so that the video sounds appealing. The goal - eyeballs, followers and engagement. You can ask an AI agent. It will come up with the entire video script.
It will add words like "science tells us", or "research tells us."
But is this good advice?
Given the number of people offering their opinion, much of which is conflicting, we would not be bringing anything home.
One person tells you to never bring turmeric home. Another tells you the exact opposite. So clearly the advice is confusing.
But the real risk is simplification.
If health could be simplfied to doing or not doing three things, wouldn't life be wonderful?
But such messages appeal. They get the eyeballs, the shares, the followers.
There is a risk.
Simple messages make us feel like we have done something, without really having done so. Human being like simple easy goals.
Goals that we can achieve so we feel like we accomplished something.
If that is the start of a journey, thats a great strategy. Take a few steps to start walking, for example. But the objective was not to take a few steps, it was to walk. A lot.
So sure, go ahead and stop bringing those three things home or stop doing those three things, preferrably once you validate the veracity of what is being said. But use it only to start a journey.
Dont make simplistic advice your journey.
