We live in a damp environment. At least most us do. The ones who live in a dry warm environment aspire to buy air conditioning to air condition their world. Once installed, you create opportunities for your habitat to become damp.

If you live in modern society, chances are that the home or office that you live in is also leaking and damp. Water may enter through the roof, walls, or windows.

What’s wrong with damp? Can anything be done?

Remember, we are talking of a living space that is damp persistently, not a puddle on the floor that you will mop. A persistently damp environment becomes a breeding ground for mold and fungus.

The problem may not be obvious. Detecting mold visually can be challenging. Over time, the mold grows in the wet, damp environment.

Mold spread by releasing spores which we inhale. Mild exposure it not harmful. However, if you repeatedly expose yourself to mold, it can cause asthma and bronchitis. Sore throat, nose-bleeds and blurry vision can also occur. Children and older people are more susceptible.

So what can you do?

One of the interesting technologies I learnt about was thermal imaging. It is possible to use a device to see subtle changes in temperature in your living space. Walls and floors, for example.

The subtle change tells you that a specific area is damp and needs your attention. Since damp areas largely go undetected, knowing is beneficial.

Once you identify the area, you can use a host of services to remove the source of the damp.

We spend most of our lives in our homes and working spaces. Constant exposure to mold caused by a damp environment is not in your interest.
