Lucid Dreaming: Regulate Your Dreams
Lucid dreaming is a state of consciousness where you know you are dreaming.
I don’t recall dreams. So the notion that you can not only remember but be aware sounds fascinating.
So can you train yourself to do so, and how can you use it for your benefit? Is it even real?
Researchers studied this topic extensively. Stephen LaBerge, then a Phd student at Stanford, published a paper on signalling with the eye to show that the person knew they were dreaming.
Since then, research has sped up to understand and direct the person undergoing the experience.
But why would you want to direct dream either by yourself or induced by a third party?
It is thought that during dreams, the brain constructs and simulates various scenarios. They make seem outlandish and absurd, but they are based on your life.
They include people, events and situations that you are dealing with at some level. Often what you experience feels real, so much so that you could wake up sweating.
Imagine you could be aware during such moments. Imagine that someone could intervene and help you navigate these thoughts. Away from what is scaring you and toward a more pleasant version.
Dream often traumatize those who are undergoing post trauma stress induced disorders. They replay the reasons they are stressed in their dreams, making both being awake and going to sleep hard.
For such people, lucid dreaming is a boon.
But if you are not suffering, lucid dreaming would still help in going deeper into your emotions and feelings and being able to regulate it.
Think of it like another form of meditation, expect in this case you are being assisted by another person.
If you are wondering how someone would know that you are dreaming or that the dream is unpleasant, scientists have gotten really good at this.
They can understand and project your dreams and also understand from various indicators how you are responding.
Lucid dreams anyone?
