Gaslighting - playing with beliefs

Gaslighting - playing with beliefs
BreatheAgain

"Gaslighting is an insidious form of manipulation and psychological control. Victims of gaslighting are deliberately and systematically fed false information that leads them to question what they know to be true, often about themselves."

So how could psychological manipulation apply to our everyday lives.

Anyone wishing to play with our emotions would work at the belief level. Once I believe something, I am a soldier in the army. Dare someone disagree.

Let us look at some of these beliefs.

It is natural, even inevitable, for us to get sick, develop diseases, become frail, and then die as we age.

Actually, none of these are true. Possible, sure, inevitable, certainly not. But acceptance normalises these outcomes.

If you normalized something, you would not seek to escape or find a solution, would you?

So then, if your environment were to provide you with a solution that manages diseases, you would be grateful, wouldn't you?

Diseases cannot be reversed.

Sure, there are conditions which are progressive. But they get worse due to wrong treatments or cures or worse neglect.

That you can slow down a disease is something that almost everyone in the world of health would accept.

You need food to have energy.

Sure, of course you do. But an average person has energy stored for at least a few months. You need nutrients, not just more food.

A lack of energy is, more often than not, a lack of essential minerals and vitamins. But we would likely eat food for fear of becoming frail and weak.

Counterintuitively, by eating more all the time, you are upsetting your ability to convert your food into energy. You develop a condition called insulin resistance.

So sometimes, it makes sense to go back and question your fundamental beliefs.

Is the information flowing to you that is shaping your opinion gaslighting you?
