Energetics: The key to your mood

Have you felt low energy? A strange feeling that you cannot explain or describe? Your circumstances driving the way you are feeling?

Welcome to the world of energetics.

Our body needs energy when we are alive. We call this metabolism. However, the flow of energy within the body varies depending on your situation.

Think of it this way. If you suddenly decide to run while reading this article. Your body would have to shift the energy from your brain to your muscles.

Energetics is the study of the process by which our body shifts energy within the body depending on your need.

To greatly simplify, energetics affects how efficiently our cells produce ATP.

This energy production is not merely about calories, but the manner in which our cells convert nutrients into usable fuel.

Optimizing this process makes us feel more alert, resilient, and able to meet both physical and mental demands.

Imagine that in the process of getting up and running, your body was unable to produce the energy efficienctly to power your run.

Your body and mind would pick up the signal that the energy is not flowing adequately to your muscles or heart.

Your brain would kick in to make you realise that you are not at your best today. Slowing down or even not going for the run may be wiser, else you could hurt yourself.

You would experience that as a mood. Mistakenly, you might call yourself lazy or indisciplined. But the truth is that your body is out of balance.

This process is cyclical.

Your environment affects the energetics within your body and the energy within your body affects the way you perceive your environment.

So what is the way out?

The key is a state of balance. Good sleep, proper nutrition, slow breathing, adequate exercise which affect your mood. Your mood affects how you perceive your world.
