40 and a slowing metabolism
So you turned 40. Suddenly, you can see your body slowing down. You don’t have the same energy, the same recovery.
You can’t just wake up from a night of drinking and head off to work like nothing happened. Most importantly, you can’t lose weight.
So what’s going on?
Take secret lies in the changes that you have undergone as you’ve grown older.
Most likely you have lost muscle, more likely your ability to produce insulin has changed, and your testosterone levels have fallen.
Collectively, these have a dramatic effect on your ability to digest and process calories.
You have probably called it a slowing of your metabolism.
It happened to me. I went from being able to eat kilograms of french fries and remain thin as a stick to a single french fry showing up on my belly.
But you have to ask yourself, how can the same person go from eating a bucket of fries to not being able to eat any at all.
More importantly what can you do?
Most people try to adjust their intake of food. “I dont eat french fries anymore,” you might find yourself saying.
But the answer is probably more holistic.
Each decade after the age of 30, we lose 10% for muscle. The first place you should be visiting is your gym to rebuild the muscles that you’re losing.
Muscles actively consume calories even at rest, and so the more you have muscles the better it is for you. Man or woman.
Next, he should look at your testestorone. Spending time in the sun, exercising regularly, and ensuring that you have adequate zinc and magnesium increases testosterone.
Prioritising sleep, rest, and recovery does the same.
As far as insulin resistance is concerned, this is a natural progression of your inability to digest sugar. Sugar, is misunderstood, and most people resort to reducing the consumption of sugar.
However, the sugar that we are talking about is glucose which can be made both from carbohydrates and protein.
Therefore what you need is a moderation in the quantity of food.
The key lesson is that age is not necessarily a determined of your metabolism, your lifestyle is.
