Food delivered in ten minutes is the promise. Sounds like magic, doesn’t it?

But you have to ask, how can your dinner be delivered in under ten minutes?

Try telling your mum you want lunch in ten minutes or less and see what she says. Your ears ringing from a walloping is the likely consequence.

Imagine is takes six minutes to bring the food to your doorstep, no matter how close they may be. Imagine it takes a minute to pack your food.

That leaves us with three to cook. Even Houdini could not manage. So your dinner has been cooked and kept ready to fill your container.

But wait. Isn’t the food you’re eating hot?

So that means we are heating it to serve you. Which is a polite way to say we are reheating it to serve you.

The biryani from your ten-minute delivery provider has been pre-made and reheated, perhaps several times before it gets to you.

If what you are eating is milk disguised as cheese, tomatoes and sugar disguised as ketchup and flour, butter and salt, disguised as bread, it won’t matter.

The food has no nutritional value whatsoever.

But if you imagined you were doing the healthy vegetables, juice or salad, perish the thought. Nutrition in the food curled up and wilted faster than you could press “order now.”

Call me old-fashioned, but dinner needs to be cooked at home, with love and served fresh. If you are looking for a treat, go out and eat.

Watch it being made in front of you, if you can. They will take time, especially if they care for what they do.

But life and food needs to be savoured, not delivered faster than a bullet.
